We want to be direct: Ask The Island may collect, use, and share information about you — including for personalization, advertising, affiliate tracking, and analytics. You have rights to opt out of certain uses. Read this policy to understand what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
1. Information We Collect

- Account information: Name, email address, Google account identifier, profile picture, and authentication tokens when you sign in with Google.
- App activity: Searches you run, places you view, places you save, itineraries you generate, tabs you visit, chat messages you send, categories you browse, and your preferences.
- Location-related information: City or region you select, map area you browse, and approximate location inferred from your selections or IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location.
- Device and technical information: IP address, browser type, operating system, app version, device identifiers, cookies, local storage data, session information, and usage logs.
- Commercial activity: Clicks on tour links, booking link interactions, affiliate link clicks, referral source, and purchase activity with third-party providers.
- User-submitted content: Reviews, photos, notes, feedback, saved itinerary details, and corrections you submit.
- Communications: Emails or messages you send to us.
2. How We Use Information
We may use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, secure, and improve Ask The Island
- Authenticate your account and keep you signed in
- Personalize recommendations, itineraries, search results, and content
- Generate AI-powered travel suggestions and chat responses
- Show, personalize, measure, and improve advertisements
- Create audience segments and retarget users across platforms
- Perform analytics, attribution, and performance measurement
- Track affiliate referrals and calculate commissions
- Market Ask The Island and third-party offers
- Develop new features and AI systems
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, scraping, and security threats

3. How We Disclose, Sell, or Share Information

We may share information with:
- Infrastructure providers: Supabase (database, auth), Cloudflare (CDN, security, Workers), and other cloud/hosting services
- Analytics providers: To measure app performance, usage patterns, and user behavior
- Advertising networks and data partners: To show and measure ads, build audiences, and retarget users
- Affiliate and attribution partners: To track referrals, bookings, and commissions (including Viator)
- AI service providers: To power AI-generated recommendations and chat responses (including Anthropic Claude)
- Legal, compliance, and law enforcement recipients: When required by law or to protect rights, safety, or property
- Business successors: In connection with a merger, sale, financing, restructuring, or acquisition

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Ask The Island and its service providers may use cookies, local storage, pixels, SDKs, device identifiers, and similar tracking technologies for authentication, security, analytics, advertising, affiliate attribution, retargeting, personalization, and performance measurement.
You can manage cookies through your browser settings, though disabling cookies may affect app functionality including sign-in, saved places, and personalized recommendations.
6. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
We may sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under applicable privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and the New Jersey Data Privacy Act (NJDPA).

We will honor legally required opt-out signals where required by applicable law.
7. Your Privacy Rights

- Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information
- Right to Data Portability: Request a copy of your personal information in a portable format

8. Children's Privacy
Ask The Island is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect, sell, or share personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it.

9. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the service, maintain your account, fulfill the purposes described in this policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and enforce our agreements.
When you request account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law, necessary for security or legal compliance, or where information has been shared with third parties in ways that make retrieval impractical.
10. Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encryption in transit, access controls, and use of reputable infrastructure providers (Cloudflare, Supabase).
No security system is perfect. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your information. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account and any devices you use to access Ask The Island.
11. Third-Party Links and Services
Ask The Island may link to or integrate with third-party websites, maps, booking platforms, and services. When you leave Ask The Island, their own privacy policies apply. We are not responsible for third-party data practices.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted with a new effective date. If we make material changes — especially regarding sale, sharing, or use of personal information for advertising — we will provide notice through the service or by email where required by law.
