Ask The Island is a Puerto Rico travel discovery app operated by Dereck Acevedo. We help users find places, build AI-powered itineraries, explore Puerto Rico through chat, browse events and tours, and save their favorite spots. Our website is asktheislands.com and the app lives at app.asktheislands.com.
By accessing or using Ask The Island, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Your use of Ask The Island is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, disclose, sell, share, and protect personal information, including for advertising and analytics purposes.
Ask The Island is not intended for children under 13. You may not create an account or use the service if you are under 13.
We do not knowingly collect, sell, or share personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take reasonable steps to delete it promptly.

By using the service, you represent that you are at least 13 years old and have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms.
You may sign in using Google Sign-In or Google OAuth. We do not store your Google password. Authentication is handled entirely by Google and Supabase.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account and any device used to access Ask The Island. We are not responsible for unauthorized access to your account resulting from your failure to keep your credentials secure.
You may request deletion of your account and associated saved places, itineraries, and personal information by contacting us at hello@asktheislands.com. We will process deletion requests as described in our Privacy Policy. Some limited information may be retained where required for security, legal compliance, abuse prevention, financial recordkeeping, or backup purposes.
Your use of Ask The Island is governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the service, you acknowledge that we may collect information from and about you, including:
We may use this information to operate, secure, personalize, improve, market, and monetize Ask The Island — including for recommendations, itinerary generation, analytics, targeted advertising, retargeting, audience creation, attribution, affiliate tracking, fraud prevention, and AI system improvement.
Where permitted by law, we may disclose, sell, share, license, or otherwise make available certain personal information and usage data to advertising networks, data partners, analytics providers, affiliate partners, marketing platforms, attribution providers, and other business partners.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights. However, some features may require certain data to function, and limiting data use may affect personalization, recommendations, saved places, itineraries, and other app features.
Ask The Island may show advertisements, sponsored recommendations, promoted listings, paid placements, affiliate offers, booking links, or other monetized content.
We may work with third-party advertising networks, analytics providers, retargeting providers, data partners, social media platforms, affiliate networks, attribution providers, and marketing partners. These partners may collect or receive information about your device, browser, app activity, searches, viewed places, saved places, itinerary activity, approximate location, ad interactions, and referral source.
These partners may use cookies, pixels, SDKs, device identifiers, tracking technologies, server-side events, or similar technologies to measure ads, personalize ads, build audiences, attribute conversions, prevent fraud, and improve marketing.
Your interactions with third-party ads, links, platforms, and partners are subject to those third parties' own terms and privacy policies.
Some places, tours, activities, hotels, restaurants, attractions, booking links, recommendations, or search results shown in Ask The Island may be sponsored, promoted, affiliate-based, paid placements, or monetized partnerships.
Ask The Island may earn money, commissions, referral fees, advertising revenue, data revenue, sponsorship fees, or other compensation when you view, click, save, book, purchase, or interact with certain content, links, recommendations, or third-party services. This includes Viator tour bookings, which may earn us a commission at no additional cost to you.
Paid relationships may influence placement, ranking, display, or visibility of certain recommendations. We aim to keep recommendations useful and relevant regardless of monetization.
We do not control third-party pricing, availability, booking terms, cancellations, refunds, safety standards, operator conduct, or customer service.
Ask The Island uses AI-powered features to generate travel suggestions, itineraries, chat responses, summaries, and recommendations.
AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, biased, unsafe, unavailable, or unsuitable for your specific situation. Ask The Island does not guarantee that any recommendation, itinerary, place, route, activity, business, address, price, hours, phone number, safety condition, accessibility detail, or travel instruction is accurate or current.
You are solely responsible for verifying all important information before relying on it — including hours, prices, addresses, road conditions, tide conditions, weather, beach flags, trail conditions, accessibility, parking, permits, safety, and booking details.
Ask The Island does not provide emergency, medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or professional advice of any kind.
Travel and outdoor activities involve risk. Puerto Rico beaches, rivers, waterfalls, caves, cliffs, roads, trails, nightlife areas, remote locations, weather conditions, ocean currents, rip currents, tides, flash flooding, wildlife, heat, terrain, and transportation may be dangerous or rapidly changing.
Ask The Island does not verify real-time conditions and does not guarantee that any place is safe, legal to access, open, supervised, family-friendly, accessible, clean, secure, or suitable for you or your group.
You are responsible for checking official sources, weather alerts, emergency notices, local rules, road closures, park rules, beach flags, surf conditions, tide tables, trail conditions, transportation availability, and your own physical capability before visiting any place.
You assume all risks related to travel, transportation, bookings, outdoor activities, water activities, food, nightlife, hiking, driving, and reliance on recommendations from Ask The Island.
In an emergency, call 911 or local emergency services. Do not rely on Ask The Island during emergencies.
Ask The Island uses third-party service providers to operate, secure, host, authenticate, store, analyze, deliver, and improve the service. By using Ask The Island, you acknowledge that your information may be processed by these providers as necessary.
Supabase. We use Supabase for database hosting, authentication support, storage, APIs, logs, and related infrastructure. Information processed through Supabase may include account information, email address, saved places, itineraries, app activity, preferences, technical logs, and device information. Supabase may process personal information on our behalf as a service provider. Supabase's own Terms, Privacy Notice, and Data Processing Addendum may apply to its processing of data. We are not responsible for Supabase outages, security incidents, data loss, or service changes.
Cloudflare. We use Cloudflare for DNS, CDN, caching, security, firewall protection, bot protection, DDoS protection, routing, performance, Workers (serverless functions), analytics, and related infrastructure. When you access Ask The Island, Cloudflare may process your IP address, device information, browser information, request metadata, security events, cookies, request headers, and technical logs. Cloudflare's Privacy Policy and Data Processing Addendum apply to its processing of data on our behalf. We are not responsible for Cloudflare outages, routing issues, blocked requests, caching issues, or security filtering.
Google Sign-In and Authentication. When you choose to sign in with Google, Google may share information with Ask The Island based on permissions you approve — including your name, email address, profile picture, Google account identifier, and authentication tokens. Your use of Google Sign-In is subject to Google's Terms of Service, Google's Privacy Policy, and Google's API Services User Data Policy. We are not responsible for Google authentication failures, account security issues, or Google service changes. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account.
We may change, add, remove, or replace service providers at any time without notice, provided that we continue to handle personal information as described in our Privacy Policy and as required by applicable law.
Ask The Island may display, link to, or integrate with third-party services, including Google Maps, Viator, AllTrails, analytics providers, advertising partners, affiliate networks, booking platforms, and other travel, mapping, or marketing services.
We do not own or control third-party services. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, data practices, privacy policies, prices, payments, cancellations, refunds, injuries, losses, safety standards, or customer service.
When you click a third-party link, book a tour, interact with an ad, use a third-party service, or leave Ask The Island, your information may be collected by those third parties according to their own terms and privacy policies.
We may display information sourced from third-party services. Third-party content belongs to its respective providers and may be subject to their own terms, licenses, attribution requirements, and restrictions.
If you submit, upload, save, create, post, send, or otherwise provide content to Ask The Island — including reviews, photos, notes, itinerary details, feedback, corrections, business information, or suggestions — you represent that you have the right to provide it and that it does not violate any law or third-party rights.
You grant Ask The Island a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable license to host, store, use, reproduce, modify, display, distribute, analyze, commercialize, and create derivative works from your content for purposes including operating the service, improving the service, marketing, advertising, analytics, AI features, personalization, and business development.
We may remove, edit, restrict, or refuse user content at any time for any reason, including if we believe it is false, unsafe, unlawful, infringing, abusive, misleading, spam, or harmful to the service or other users.
Ask The Island, including its name, logo, design, software, interface, prompts, workflows, database, categories, rankings, recommendations, itineraries, text, graphics, branding, features, AI systems, and overall app experience, is owned by us or our licensors. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
You may not copy, scrape, crawl, harvest, extract, download, reproduce, resell, redistribute, reverse engineer, mirror, frame, train AI systems on, or create a competing product or database using Ask The Island or its content without our written permission.
You may not use bots, spiders, scripts, scrapers, crawlers, automated tools, bulk download tools, data mining systems, or similar technologies to access, monitor, copy, or extract data from Ask The Island.

We may suspend, restrict, disable, or terminate your account or access to Ask The Island at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you violated these Terms, violated the law, misused the service, created risk, harmed users, abused data, interfered with the platform, submitted false information, or acted in a way that may expose us to liability.
We may also remove content, block access, limit features, preserve records, or cooperate with law enforcement, regulators, service providers, or rights holders where appropriate.
You may stop using Ask The Island at any time. Account and data deletion requests are handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
We may change, update, suspend, remove, restrict, discontinue, or modify any part of Ask The Island at any time — including features, recommendations, categories, maps, AI responses, ads, affiliate links, data practices, accounts, saved places, itineraries, integrations, and third-party services.
We do not guarantee that the service will be available, uninterrupted, secure, accurate, current, or error-free at all times.
We are not responsible for outages, delays, data loss, third-party failures, inaccurate content, unavailable features, or service changes that affect your use of Ask The Island.
Ask The Island is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, availability, security, and uninterrupted operation.
We do not warrant that Ask The Island will meet your expectations, produce accurate recommendations, prevent harm, identify unsafe places, or be suitable for any specific trip, person, family, activity, or purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ask The Island, its owner, affiliates, service providers, partners, advertisers, data partners, licensors, contractors, and representatives will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or enhanced damages.
This includes damages for lost profits, lost data, lost business, lost goodwill, personal injury, death, property damage, travel disruption, booking problems, cancellations, refunds, third-party disputes, inaccurate recommendations, unsafe conditions, reliance on AI content, data sharing, or use of third-party services.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims related to Ask The Island will not exceed the greater of $100 USD or the amount you paid us directly to use Ask The Island during the 12 months before the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of these limits may not apply to you.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Ask The Island, its owner, affiliates, service providers, partners, advertisers, data partners, licensors, contractors, and representatives from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, fines, penalties, settlements, costs, and expenses — including reasonable attorneys' fees — arising from or related to:
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or Ask The Island will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, unless applicable law requires otherwise. You consent to personal jurisdiction and venue in those courts.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted with a new effective date at the top of this page.
If we make material changes — especially changes that affect how we collect, use, sell, share, or disclose personal information — we will provide notice through the service, by email, or by other reasonable means. Continued use of Ask The Island after updated Terms become effective means you accept the updated Terms.
